The process of drug rehabilitation at Fazenda is not supervised by professionals. The persons in charge came in answer to God's call. Some were drug users who have found a new life at Fazenda while others have never used drugs but have found their vocation in living in true fellowship with the boys and girls at Fazenda.
Everyone in the community is a member of the Family of Hope (Familia da Esperança) a duly recognized Catholic community whose membership are a mix of consecrated laymen, married persons, priests and nuns. In June 2010, the statues of Family of Hope were approved by the Vatican, through the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
The process of rehabilitation at Fazenda takes one year. Those who complete the process are considered "Ex" and become members of the family of Fazenda. When they meet regularly to pray, meditate, renew their spirituality and share their experiences, they are organized into Groups of Hope. The first Group of Hope in the Philippines was established in Las Piñas. In spite of the distance from Masbate, the group keeps in close touch and receives help when needed. Other Ex meet regular in Naga City and Masbate.
The mission of Fazenda da Esperança is not limited to helping drug addicts. It is committed to every kind of evangelization. The centers welcome all kinds of visitors - students, parishioners, social workers, private individuals - who are interested in the work of Fazenda. This is highlighted during the celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi in October and this is observed in Fazenda centers all over the world.
